Auxiliary Grants
An auxiliary grant is an income supplement for individuals who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and certain other aged, blind, or disabled individuals who reside in a licensed assisted living or an approved adult foster care home. An auxiliary grant payment is issued monthly to be used alongside a designated portion of an individual’s income for paying an assisted living or adult foster care home a maximum monthly rate determined by the Virginia General Assembly. This program is 80% state funded and 20% locally funded, administered by the Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services; note that not all assisted livings accept auxiliary grant payments. |
