Mid-Managers Professional Development Series
This comprehensive program spans four to five months, with monthly sessions tailored for new managers or those seeking to tackle fresh managerial challenges. The program aims to foster participants’ self-awareness, leadership capabilities, and grasp of the aging services domain, empowering participants to cultivate a holistic perspective on their role and organization. Structured around skill-building and knowledge enrichment, sessions delve into key areas such as:

  • Leadership in senior housing settings
  • Financial literacy
  • Delegation
  • Teamwork
  • Personnel development
  • Business communication

Each participant takes part in a ProScan analysis, a tool evaluating their leadership and communication styles, strengths, stressors, motivators, and demotivators. DC, Maryland & Virginia Leadership Academy

This year-long cohort, modeled after the LeadingAge National Leadership Academy, is offered through partnership between LeadingAge DC, Maryland, and Virginia. During the year, Fellows are guided through a graduate-level curriculum, which examines the traits of successful leaders, develops leadership competencies, and expands knowledge in the field of aging services while establishing strong bonds with other members of the cohort.

The Leadership Academy is created around five core ideas

  • Leadership and Self-Reflection: exploring personal values and self-reflective leadership
  • Advocacy: understanding the importance of relationships and trust in advocacy and community building
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: appreciating the power of partnerships and learning best practices from other people and organizations
  • Innovation and Change: exploring our potential as change agents and understanding how innovation works
  • Work-Life Integration: reflecting on our values, beliefs, and philosophy and appreciating the value of presence and being in the moment

Program Curriculum: The Leadership Academy curriculum draws on adult learning theory to delve into the core principles of transformational leadership, person-centered care, and innovation. The program emphasizes self-awareness and relationship-building through a variety of education methodologies. Traditional and experiential learning methods are used to create an environment in which Fellows learn from their own experiences, from one another, from the coaches and design team, and from leaders and experts in the field.
